So, I really want to try openSUSE Tumbleweed, but I’m facing an issue after installing it. I downloaded the latest ISO for 64 bits Intel/AMD desktops/laptops but everytime it finishes the installation and I try to boot, I just get an empty black screen and it reboots after a short time. This happened with both online and offline ISOs, both on my desktop (AMD) and my laptop (Intel). I was able to boot on my desktop but only on recovery mode. I tried enabling/disabling safe boot but nothing worked. I really want to use this distro, so I’d appreciate if anyone could help me with this
@jimi_hendrix22 Hi and welcome to the Forum
Likely a graphics issue, so when you first boot and at grub, press the e
key to edit the boot options, use the arrow keys to go down to the line starting linux or linuxefi and then press the end
key and add nomodeset and press the F10 key to boot. That should get something started, resolution may not be stella, but at least can get additional information about your system(s).
I did exactly how you said but it didn’t work
Did you use a Linux install helper program to copy the ISO???
You need to only do a unmodified binary copy to the device not to a partition on the device.
I didn’t understand. Anyway, as I said, I downloaded the ISO from the official site, moved it to my USB (Ventoy), booted into BIOS/UEFI, changed the boot priority and installed it with that Tumbleweed GUI installer
Ventoy can break a openSUSE ISO since it may make changes
You need to do a binary copy aometime it may be called DD in some helpers
here is a Binary ony copy program
