Hello,
I have installed openSuse 11.4 milestone 6/6 with using the netinst cd. The first problem occurred after first restart during installation. The graphical installer didn’t show up, so I continued with the text install, but now installation is done.
This installation resulting in a black screen instead of kdm. With option ‘x11failsafe’ kde started and were running, using ‘fbdev’ driver.
After that i installed nvidia binary drivers (270.18) the hard way. X11 didn’t start with ‘no screens found’ error.
Extracted edid.bin in windows and added thw two lines to xorg.conf. ([SOLVED] X fails to load with nvidia driver: “screen(s) found, but none have a usable config” - Ubuntu Forums](http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1477507)). This results in a black screen on internal display and no output on external. No errors in xorg.log file.
The 260.* drivers are the same, 256.* failed to compile.

are you aware that that is testing only software!!
do NOT install it on a machine with any data (music, movies, letters,
emails, doctoral thesis, or etc) you wish to keep safe…
if you intentionally installed TESTING software that is not ready for
general public use you should discuss it and any problems you have
with it with the other software testers in the correct forum where
testers hang out, here: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/pre-release-beta/
if you accidentally installed it thinking it was the current version,
i would suggest you open a bugzilla on that page where you got
it…that page should make SO very apparent that it is testing
software that no one could accidentally install it…

It’s a new machine, so nothing important.
With openSuse 11.3 its the same, Only KMS wasn’t disabled by default, so the screen get i little crazy, but after disabling it and generating a new initrd, it’s behaving the same.
This thread is in the WRONG forum location. I am going to move this thread to pre-release/beta forum. WEB and NNTP users please do not reply until after it has been moved. I will reply to the thread after it has been moved so you know where it is located.
I moved this thread from the ‘hardware’ sub-forum area where it was inappropriately posted to the “pre-release/beta” forum area. Both WEB and NNTP users are invited now to reply to the thread.
please PM and ask a moderator to move your thread to the correct forum…
this forum is for questions about drivers, peripheral cabling,
configuration for folks using openSUSE 11.2 and 11.3
