Where is history output?

Computer is shut-down every night.

Hi
It’s in /var/log/zypp/history

FFS was there an NVIDIA driver update today??

NVIDIA websites says that version 367.35 was released July 15. Which means it could have been in the LEAP repo today and is what’s causing this problem.

Yep - there it is in the history file. Version 367.35 automatically updated this morning.

This happened with the last NVIDIA driver update as well. What is wrong with OpenSUSE and NVIDIA not working ???

Now I need to know when the fix is expected …

Hi
Nothing wrong, nvidia is a proprietary package, to avoid I use the run file… looks like it’s built for the older kernel.

If you run;

/sbin/modinfo nvidia |grep filename

What kernel is in play?

modinfo: ERROR: Module nvidia not found.

Hi
OK, so I guess your out of luck until they fix it…
ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/leap/42.1/x86_64/

All point at kernel 4.1.12, I’m guessing the nvidia.ko module was sitting in weak updates after the last kernel update, then got over written with that one in today’s update.

I would suggest the hard way and use the run file?

Have uninstalled all NVIDIA components. Am able to reboot to Nouveau.**** Will wait for problem to be fixed. How is it that I am the only one reporting this ???

Hi
I guess lots of folks use the run file? It says the hard way, but I find it pretty easy, a few commands and done…

May want to check seems related

I have the same problem. I also ran an update last night night, then, this morning, I tried to start a program (singularity) which I was running at the same time as I updated. I tried to start it this morning and it failed, saying that it had problems connecting to X. So I rebooted and ended up in text mode.

I followed your lead and deinstalled the nvidia modules. However, this hasn’t given me Plasma. So I’m still stuck with text mode onlxy.

I noticed that when I deinstalled I got the message that some kernels modules were not included and that I needed to manually refresh the bootloader. I refreshed the bootloader before rebooting, naturally, but I suspect that I may not have completely undone the changes that are causing the problem.

Any hints as to how to find it/them?

And is there any guarantee that nvidia will tackle the problem? How will they know about it?

Is there any way to revert to the previous version of the updated module?

Did you remove the VirtualBox modules and reinstall NVIDIA. VB mods are not needed in the host

I don’t have a misc directory in /lib/modules/4.1.x-default/, so I assume I don’t have VirtualBox modules. Is there somewhere else they could be?

Use yast search for virtualbox-guest and remove any installed. Note if you use VB remove only the guest mod

Thanks. That wasn’t installed anyway.

Odd it should be by default unless you removed it before. :X

Maybe drop back to the previous NVIDIA driver via the version tab in yast then black list the driver to stop updates from changing until problem is solved

Where is the version tab in the text version of Yast?

Where is the version tab in the text version of Yast?

Hi
So enter your search, eg kernel-default. Then press alt+v for view and
then select package versions, all available versions will appear in the
lower right hand section.

Thanks.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been deinstalling and reinstalling, but there’s only the installed versions of nvidia modules available.
