BIOS changed --> GRUB is giving ERROR 18

:open_mouth:

I have a dual bootsystem XP and SuSE 10.0.
I use GRUB (v0.93).

Sequence of events:

  • I was in my BIOS for some change
  • I restarted/rebooted the system
  • GRUB is giving ERROR 18

I googled this issue and found many reports on this ERROR 18 issue.
Most of them are reported in the context of an new Linux installation.

Can someone recommend me what to do when encountering this ERROR 18.
I don;t want to loose my existing XP/Windows data, nor my existing linux data. :frowning: :โ€™( :\

Is there any straightforward instruction manual on GRUB with regard to this problem?

Thank you in advance.

I suggest that you boot to openSUSE using one of the methods here, probably the first iis pretty easy if you have the install DVD:
HowTo Boot into openSUSE when it wonโ€™t Boot from the Grub Code on the Hard Drive
And then repair the bootloader as illustrate in the appendix of that tutorial

Thanks,

Iโ€™ll do that.
