Beware Win10 VMware Workstation (running openSUSE and others as Guests)

This month MS is officially pushing all Win10 upgrades to 1903.
Despite reported problems with VMware Workstation since at least Februrary 2019, this will break practically all VMware workstation installs except the very latest version (days or a few weeks old).

If you are running VMware Workstation on a Win10 HostOS,
Recommend

  1. Decline the upgrade until you are certain you’ve addressed issues.
  2. Upgrade your VMware Workstation now, before doing anything else.

If you’ve already upgraded, You’ll find VMware won’t start (but the services do start and run).
There are reported workarounds, but a completely new re-install of VMware Workstation may be your best try which could mean recovering your license.

I haven’t seen anything official from VMware on this issue yet as of today.
