I did a zypper dup this morning and got updated to opensuse beta3+
kernel 2.6.27.3-2
also did a check with repo and updates for 0ct 26 and 27
What’s up with the factory repo oss? I keep getting the message:
Valid metadata not found for specified URL.
Zypper and YaST both refuse to download any packages as long as they get this message. Been that way for two days now.
Here is the correct url for the repo Index of /factory/repo/oss
And non oss is up http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/non-oss/
I am having the same problem now.
signature verification failed for content
my 11.1 oss is down but I still have 11.1 non oss
OK zypper ref fixed it
but I had to redo my non oss in yast but everything seems to be ok now
It’s a my fault or some packages have been downgraded today?
i.e. Openoffice: I’ve a 3.0.0.6-1.4 and now in the repository there is 3.0.0.6-1.3
something wrong?
Mirko
The dates on the packages from repo/oss are older than they were yesterday.
I just checked the repo and it is empty which means a update is coming
the folders are dated oct 29 yippee
I noticed some downgrades also so I don’t think its your fault. keep trying
keep in mind that rc1 is due shortly (friday but expect a delay)
btw do you habe the non oss repo?
Thats a mirror I’m doing a 2.2 gig upgrade right now with no additional change to my repo list. It has a new kernel.
Just finished the update, only 600MB worth of updates but I’m running beta 4. I think some of the beta 3-plus stuff didn’t change, hence why my download was so small, that or they are compiled as “new versions” and when i did update all in YaST it detected it as an older version. Either way it booted up and everything seems to work. Not much has changed, although it seems to be a bit more stable. Of course running 4.2 is already way faster than what 4.1.2 is at right now, so once they start getting to alpha and beta status I really think KDE 4.2 will be worth the upgrade for anyone, just because of the new features and the overall speed increase. Some of my apps cut down start times by at least 90%.
Do you mean kde 4 beta ?
I have kde and gnome so my upgrade is a smidgin big.
Nope, opensuse beta 4. I am running it right now, I just replaced the “stable” KDE 4.1.2 with KDE 4.1.71 (AKA 4.2) to test that out also. But KDE 4.2 was updated sunday, So KDE 4 remained untouched with todays updates.
I haven’t KDE 4.1.71 on my (oss)repo… and Beta4 is scheduled for today but isn’t announced yet… there are others repo than factory?
@dale: no, I haven’t added the non-oss repo yet.
When you beta test, through updating with the factory repo, you update to the next release of the beta/rc release. So basically you update to the next release before they have created the dvd’s and live cd’s to release.
Yep
Its Beta 4
when suse 11.0 was going through the beta stages upgrades (beta1 to beta2 etc) almost always came through a couple days before the announcement
I would recommend updating gain when the upgrade is announced
I have some dependency problems with x86-64 update. Resolved them in Yast by not updating some packages.
Mailing list says this repo will fix those: Index of /repositories/home:/coolo:/hotfixforbeta4/openSUSE_Factory I intend to add that as a repo & see what is updated;)
I’ll look at those this afternoon when I get back from the ranch.
Just like beta2, beta 4 adds all the failsafe options to the regular kernel. I had to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst to remove all these options and have it boot normally.
Anyone else getting this?

Also for the zypper users"
Zypper dup wants to replace yast2-wagon-2.17.2-1.4.noarch package with yast2-wagon-2.17.2-1.4.noarch package all over again.
Yeah, the package is broken and majorly unneeded. Do zypper remove yast2-wagon
before zypper dup
