Disabled PulseAudio and sound came back and now no delays in sound
alerts.

Also fixed after disabling PulseAudio but I doubt there’s a
connection.

That has also gone after disabling PulseAudio so I guess that was what
was raising the cryptic warning messages. Pity it couldn’t identify
itself.

So, only remaining problems are (1), (2) and (5).

Logout and back in is fine for me Jim

I installed the 32Bit version with KDE from DVD on my old test-laptop. I encountered the same installation problem as in M2:
After the first reboot during installation the second part of the installation (configuration) is skipped and the normal login window comes up.
There I need to login as root (the only available user) and configure everything manually.

bug reported: #799386

@nrickert re: #34:

Have you reported any of the bugs to the bugzilla?

Yes, all. Access Denied

Can someone open a terminal (I’m using gnome)
Become su -
Run

grub2-mkconfig -o /dev/null

Can you still launch apps now?

My Computer has been removed due to the fact that kio_sysinfo has been dropped for openSUSE 12.3. Most likely due to the amount of features that are broken.

See Access Denied

My Computer has been removed due to the fact that kio_sysinfo has been dropped for openSUSE 12.3.

Does anyone know why?

No
But it looks sweet
Reminds me of the kde3 days

It was removed because the package is unmaintained. Check this https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:KDE_Meeting_20130108

Plus the open bugs were not being fixed.

Hmmm, must be a problem just with the DVD based install.

Or maybe installing the other DEs caused a problem. Guess I’ll reinstall
with just one DE and test.

I deleted the Desktop folder and “.kde4” and started a fresh configuration.

There is now a KinfoCenter icon, and it works better than the previous “My Computer”.

I am in the middle of installing latex on Beta1.

It is taking forever.

I have reported this as bug 799489

Just installing GNOME3, I still have the problem with not being able to
log back in.

Carl, are you using KDE or GNOME in your test?

I downloaded the KDE Live x86_64 build 348. It wouldn’t install within VBox 2.4.6 on my 12.2 host. The live cd won’t run either. If I choose installation, I get “Failed to access perfctr msr” is one of the first messages, then other text rolls by and then I’m taken to a command prompt.

Same result if I try to run the live cd.

Major problems with the 64-bit dvd install also. The installation went okay but the configuration part went to YaST2 ncurses mode and then stalled with the following message:

“Redirecting to systemctl --ignore-dependencies stop network”

Nothing happened after that. I guess installs within VirtualBox have issues.

The message I mentioned above about “perfctr msr” also appears with the dvd install.

Yes, I’ve entered a bug with a workaround for what I found. Bug #799492.

The message you’re seeing is because the GUI isn’t started. It can be
worked around, just Host+F2 to another VT, log in as root, and remove the
packages I list in the bug, and then install the host tools.

You’ll get an error on compilation, but the necessary guest components
will install. Reboot the VM and you’ll have a GUI.

Gnome from Live CD _64

Issues so far:

  1. Grub didn’t build a working menu for other OS’s
  2. Root password requested for shutdown/reboot
    Both these reported in bugs

Also seeing system issues when working in su - terminal (I have been working with grub)
But was finding once I’m working in the terminal I can start any more applications

On both my desktop PCs (running 12.2) Kinfocenter only provides information under the “summary” menu item. None of the other menu items respond when clicked. This is also true in 12.3. “My Computer” gave a useful selection of info in one place.

Does everyone else see the same with Kinfocenter? Can it be classed as a bug or is it simply something waiting to be completed one day?

No, all works fine for me in 12.2 with R49 on one machine and KDF on another.
I don’t have 12.3 with kde ATM

Did you test a new user in 12.2?
I guess 12.3 was a clean /home?
