The factory repo now shows Beta 1. I did an update today from rc2 - about 1,300 packages (although I had already upgraded to kde 4.10 rc2).
Everything seems to be running fine. Highlights include kde 4.10 rc2, libqt 4.8.4 and kernel 3.7.1.

Thanks. I’m looking for that to show up.
I can’t update from factory, because the most important things that I want to test have to do with installation from the DVD. So I guess I will have to await the announcement.

I’ve got the latest updates so I may now be in beta-1 but my experience
isn’t too good. All the KDE apps have lost their menu bar; Gnome apps
are unaffected. Will see what happens later with a fresh install from
DVD.

Gnome from the live cd is running really nice
No issues during install
Post install I have tweaked my settings etc for look and feel, added software and all is good.
Installed from the 64bit DVD. The install went well. This was with encrypted “/home” and swap - that combo gave me problems with M2, but those seem to have been fixed for Beta1.
The software seems to be fine, though KDE startup looks slow, if I measure the time it takes for the Klipper icon to show up in the tray.
Bluetooth does not work - it didn’t work with M2 either, but it worked with M1 and it works in 12.2. Fedora 18 has a similar problem with bluetooth.
Apart from that, things seem to be working fine, but I have not had time to test much.
For those interested, the kernel is 3.7.1-1-desktop, and the KDE is at version 4.9.97.
That might mean that Kwin has crashed - probably doesn’t like your video. Try turning off desktop effects, or starting your KDE session in safe mode.
Just found out grub was messed up for other OS’s
Sorted but looking in to the cause.
The VirtualBox video module included on the Beta1 live KDE CD (both x86 and amd64) is incompatible with its version of X.org. I do wish they’d include the kernel headers and the compiler so that people who wanted to, could install the newest version of the VBox guest additions…although it might make the live CD larger than 700MB.

I tried all the same updates on another machine and the problem didn’t
appear there. Decided to install beta-1 from DVD and problem has
cleared. Did that before seeing your advice so wasn’t able to try that;
maybe next time.

The slow KDE startup can often be fixed by uninstalling pulse audio. It does the trick for me with this beta 1.
You are second one to say it. Do you have bug report number?
It’ll be early tomorrow before I get to that
The “My Computer” icon is missing from my desktop. Anyone know how to get it back? It’s not listed in the desktop folder.
It is present on my system. But that’s because I kept my “/home” partition, so it is left over from before.
I clicked on it. Nothing happened. It was presumably omitted because it doesn’t work.
If you want it back, it is just a simple text file, named “myComputer.desktop”
[Desktop Entry]
X-SuSE-translate=true
Encoding=UTF-8
Icon=mycomp
Name=My Computer
Type=Link
URL=sysinfo:/
OnlyShowIn=KDE;
You could create that with a text editor. But it probably won’t do anything, other than show up as a useless icon.

Just right click / create new / link to location
then type
mycomputer
in the file name and for the location type
sysinfo:/
To add a icon to the shortcut - just right-click it and click on the picture and select the one for mycomputer.

If you suffer from this (I did with M2) you only need to uninstall the module pulseaudio x11 - not the whole of pulseaudio
A few glitches:
(1) KDE logon panel is now a bit of a mess. Adding list of users from
its own panel may have seemed a good idea at the time but the logon
panel should have been expanded to make room for the extra data.
(2) NTP configuration fails. Server can be added and tested OK but the
configuration cannot be saved. Bug raised.
(3) Sound alerts follow a couple of seconds after the alert window is
raised. I’ve usually completed actioning the alert by the time the
warning sounds.
(4) KDE apps have lost their menu bars. This occurred after updating
from the OSS factory repo. Originally thought just one machine affected
but found the second, different-architecture machine with 12.3-B1
installed and same updates had the same problem. Gnome apps are
unaffected. Dolphin is affected slightly differently in that the menu
icon is missing from the main toolbar - the menu bar is purposefully
hidden.

With milestone2, I was able to uninstall the installed VBox addons and
install the 4.2.6 version without any issue (or compiler).

I usually delete/suppress that user list. But this time, most of the list is invisible, so maybe I won’t bother to suppress it.
I have not seen that here, after two DVD installs (one 64bit with nvidia/nouveau graphics, the other 32 bit with ATI/radeon graphics).

This only happens if you are using a latter than Beta 1 appmenu-qt package (ie from kde 4.10 rc3). If you revert to the version that comes with Beta 1 it should be fine.

For the above to work you have to install the kio_sysinfo and the kio_sysoinfo-branding-openSUSE packages. These do not appear to be included on the dvd or in the factory repo for some strange reason!

There was talk in the factory mail list about systemd and ntp not being
compatible or something of the sort. Foggy memory
