Hi there - apologies if this is not the best place for this question - if I am in the wrong place or this is not appropriate - please advise!
I was just wondering while we wait for actual session restore - how are folks coping in the meantime? I see a lot of extensions that ALMOST do it, or did it BEFORE Gnome 50…?
What are y’all doing?
Auto-start is much less important to me than window and workspace positioning.
The Smart Auto Move NG extension is best I have come up with, but that seems to ignore Nautilus and Electron-based applications?
The Smart Auto Move NG extension doesn’t ignore Nautilus or Electron-based applications, but since it relies on a mechanism that includes the window title to match windows, it may fail to detect them if the title changes too much, for example when displaying a folder path or the name of an open file. You can fix that by adding an override for the application and lowering the threshold value to something like 0.20.
I also love the extension “Another Window Session Manager” by nlpsuge. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been updated in quite a while. I submitted a PR that restores compatibility with GNOME 50, but it hasn’t been merged yet.
Since I was the only contributor fixing compatibility issues for that extension for some time, I decided to fork it. It’s now also available in my GitHub repository, and I’ve submitted it to GNOME Extensions as well. I’d be happy to return to supporting nlpsuge’s work, but for the time being, this is probably the best way to provide a download through the official GNOME Extensions website.
