Best practice with kernel upgrades

Dear all,

I have 11.1 installed with these kernels:
kernel-pae-base-2.6.27.21-0.1.2
kernel-pae-2.6.27.21-0.1.2
linux-kernel-headers-2.6.27-2.28
kernel-pae-extra-2.6.27.21-0.1.2

I want to upgrade to 2.6.29 vanilla. In the factory repository i didn’t find kernel-headers to 2.6.29. So, which packages should I install ? Any other advice?

Thanks,
Daniel

Advice is, don’t even think about if you don’t already know the answer to this.

Development versions may not always have their other requirements for development available.

My problem is that I have an acer laptop with intel video GM965 and intel chipset.

I know that new kernels have a much better support.

If you don’t have any data on that laptop and if you want to learn how to compile the kernel, go ahead and do it!
Kernel headers need not be downloaded separately because you are going to compile everything from scratch and the source includes all the header files too.

But, take the warning from caf4926 seriously.
