Best place(s) to integrate oneself into the community?

Okay, with all of the stuff going on today with the talk of building a new community I’ve begun to want to step up my community involvement a bit more.

This place is great, I personally love how the various forums have merged, sure there are some kinks and a small amount of members who are unhappy with the changes, but I find myself wanting to involve myself a bit more than asking questions and offering help on the forums.

Are there any particular places here on the web were forum members can be found, such as IRC? Heck, a few MSN, AIM, Yahoo adds to form bonds with people in the community could work too.

You know the whole late 90’s things of friends on the internets!

A great forum needs members who are familiar with each other beyond system specs, and in order to get this forum away from the disputes over petty issues, it needs more people seeking to become more familiar with each other.

Thanks in advance.
