Best install options to get light desktop for KVM virtualization?

Anyone have suggestions on which install software options to select to get a basic light desktop installation to act as a KVM virtualization host. What I am aiming for is a GUI desktop with various server/disk tools installed but without any of the additional extras. No web browser, Apache, Office, email, etc. just the basics needed to operate as a KVM host server.

I have tried an install with the following:

Minimal X Window
Gnome base
X window system
Misc server

However don’t quite get the results I was hoping for, just get dumped into an xconsole window and am able to open a terminal windows but no sign of a normal desktop.

What you need as server tools, if that’s provided by Yast, then why have a GUI desktop at all. Yast’s ncurses version does all that the GUI version can do.

And if you insist on having a GUI desktop, why not install LXDE and remove what you don’t want/need ??

Sorry, what I omitted to mention is that this is for a workstation virtualisation host, therefore needs a GUI but no other accessories.

Light? Then LXDE.

Just done a reinstall choosing the following software options to install:

Graphical environments
Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment
Gnome base system
X window system
Fonts

Desktop functions
Multimedia – remove all
Graphics – remove all

Base technologies
Base system
Enhanced Base system
YaST system administration
yaST installation packages – part
Software management

Server functions
Miscellaneous server
Xen virtual machine host server
virt-manager
virt-viewer
vm-install
However looks like either I have misunderstood or something is going wrong, all I have got again is a plain blue background with a small xconsole* box in the top left corner. Where has the LXDE desktop gui gone?
