Before I download and burn my last remaining disc ...

I want to make sure I get the right version of openSUSE 11 for my system.

I have a Compaq Presario S4020WM with a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor.

I don’t know whether to download 32 bit or 64 bit. SOMEONE PLZ HELP!

You should download the 32 bit.

Thank you! I can’t wait to get this running on my system lol!

Doogs answer is correct…but, i want to expand a little: BEFORE you burn that
‘last disk’ read AT LEAST the first four steps of:

and, do NOT overlook steps five though eight before you stick that new DVD in
the slot to begin the install process!!

and, if you wanna have sweet dreams the first night after your successful and
pleasing install: read all the other posts in that thread…while the DVD image
downloads…(you did pick DVD, didn’t you??)

In order to use the 64-bit system, you’ll need:

  1. A 64-bit processor, in most home computers this means an Intel Core [Duo / Quad / Octi] processor or an AMD [Athlon64 / Turion64 / Phenom]. Since you said “Athlon” rather than “Athlon64,” I assume you have a 32-bit processor.

  2. The technical skills to engineer your own bugfixes and workarounds, or the patience to do without certain incompatible programs (I’m told Adobe Flash and Java are two notably problematic applications) until the authors come up with their own fixes. Long story short, there’s a few programs out there that weren’t written with 64-bit home computing in mind, so they cause problems when introduced into an alien environment.

This isn’t just a SUSE problem; Brand X has its share of compatibility issues too.

I have the first, but not the second, so I’m still using 32-bit.
