bcm43xx_firmware install broken in 12.2?

DELL Latitude D520 laptop using a Dell 1390 WLAN Mini Card

I have attempted to install the b43 driver in the terminal using this command:

sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

It will download and begin the installation, but it ends up throwing into a black screen of death with a shitload of gibberish and a mouse cursor. Can’t do anything as the system appears locked at this point. I was able to do a hard reset and it boots back up with working wireless, but then I have this random lag/freezing in the GUI that isn’t present before the b43 install. Wiped/reloaded, attempted again with same result during b43 install.

Any ideas?

It’s a bug
It does install though.

I had to force a reboot. All was good after that

If you want to avoid the scrip install I can PM you to the firmware to place in /lib/firmware
manually

That’s if you want to try again. But I doubt the problem you have is related…

Forgive this question, as I’m a novice, but is there a cleaner way to force a reboot than to just power down?

Thank you for the help
