BCM43225 with OpenSuse 11.4

Hi all,
I have a netbook ASPIRE 1830T with BCM43225. I was looking forward for new opensuse 11.4, because my wireless did not work. However it does not work even with new opensuse 11.4 and brcm80211 included (only bluetooth is on). Pages of Drivers - Linux Wireless project still report lot of work to be done.

There is one old thread BCM43224, BCM43225 and BCM4313 installation guide, where some advices are given about similar BCM wireless. However these hints are too advanced for me or do not work at all. Could anyone give me advice, which would help me to obtain working drivers in Suse 11.4?

Thank you very much in advance.

I have Acer Aspire One 753 with BCM43225 wireless card. I was also looking forward to oS-11.4 because of the wifi support.

However, after installation the card didn’t work for me, after some searching I found an advice to unload and blacklist acer_wmi driver. Simply add

blacklist acer_wmi

line at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf file and restart the machine.

This helped me, wifi works for me without problems.

I would guess you would find more/faster/better help (and more fitting than mine ;)) if you had posted you question in the ‘wireless’ area.
Anyhow->

Could you please start a terminal emulator (GNOME terminal, konsole, …) and (using your mouse if copy-and-paste is wanted) enter:

/sbin/lspci -nnk

and copy the section in relation to your wireless device
OR

/sbin/lspci -nnk | grep 14e4

(which will hopefully just result in the same because 14e4 stands for the vendor Broadcom).

Please post your result here.

This will give you and your helpers the (hexadecimal) numeric ID of your wireless device and so (more) certainty about the needed/possible software (driver(s), firmware,…) for your wireless (WLAN+bluetooth) device.

Until than
have a lot of fun

Miraculously the trick with blacklisting acer_wmi works perfectly!

Thank you both for your kind helpfulness. The problem is solved.
