Once you install the firmware, the BCM4318 works with the b43 driver -
both 32- and 64-bit. For a clue, enter the command ‘dmesg | grep b43’.
I would not recommend trying to replace a PCI card. If you really want
a new card, I suggest a RTL8187 or RTL8187B USB stick.
Well running “dmesg | grep b43” nothing shows…
what should i do next …
ndiswrapper it’s installed , i did “ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf” and then “modprobe ndiswrapper” like i have been doing since 10.3… i’m able to see wireless channels but i cannot connect… definatelyt i’m doing something wrong…
i remove my driver that i had isntalled by doing “ndiswrapper -r driver” and then i install “b43-fcutter” and i did…
export FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR="/lib/firmware"
wget http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/b...0.10.5.tar.bz2
tar xjf broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
cd broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver
sudo ../../b43-fwcutter-011/b43-fwcutter -w "$FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR" wl_apsta_mimo.o
modprobe b43
"dmesg |grep b43" here's the output..
suseLap:/home/eros # dmesg |grep b43
b43-pci-bridge 0000:03:07.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22

And the most weird thing happen … i’m getting exactly the same behavior that i was getting with ndiswrapper…
just to make sure i boot into windows xp … and my wirelles it’s working okay …

You need to configure your wireless interface. Are you using ifup or
NetworkManager?
You need to click on the NetworkManager applet in the right-hand
corner of the screen (lower for KDE, upper for Gnome) and select the
“New Connection” item. Go through the screens and enter the info for
your network. Although the “Connect and Save” button will be active,
keep pressing “Next” until it is no longer active. You will likely
want the “Autoconnect” on the last screen.
I just installed OpenSuSe 11.1 (GNOME) on my HP Pavilion dv5035nr. I had been using Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid ibex), but I wanted to try another distro to see if I liked it better.
I’ve been having so much trouble with my broadcom 4318 wireless card. I have no other way of getting on the internet save using the available wireless network.
I downloaded broadcom’s drivers, and using b43-fwcutter I installed it on my computer the way several of you outlined before (and the b43 linux website).
Last nitht after rebooting the blue wifi light turned on which was a good sign. But then I could see no network to connect to for a brief moment!, then I run nm-tool on a terminal and my card detected everything. I connected to one of the networks and I was online fine.
This morning however, my card is behaving abnormally and I don’t know what to do. If I reboot, I am able to connect to my wireless network, but with very low strength. After a few minutes I get disconnected and I can’t log back in!. Moreover the signal strength goes up suddenly, but then all the wireless networks simply die down and my card is not able to detect anything. Even if I run nm-tool again, I get nothing, even though it states my card is working well.
Do I need a special package? All these networks are WEP, so there shouldn’t be any trouble…
It’s not my wireless card, because it worked flawlessly in ubuntu 8.10 and 8.04 (though for both of them a package called wpa_supplicant was installed).
