BCM 4318 says dhclient: eth1: unknown hardware address type

knetworkmanager finds my router, so obviously it can’t be a hardware issue.

Nevertheless I started install_bcm43xx_firmware to make sure.

However it does not connect.

I find this clue in the log:

dhclient: eth1: unknown hardware address type 801

Any idea?

My solution:

Give a fixed address instead of DHCP manually (in knetworkmanager - edit connection - use manual IP configuration.

I recommend trying to go back to DHCP as that will cause you many fewer
headaches in the future.

Your “dhclient: eth1: unknown hardware address type 801” message comes from the
‘master0’ interface created by mac80211. It can be ignored. If you want to get
rid of it, your renaming rules in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
should have lines like:

SUBSYSTEM==“net”, ACTION==“add”, DRIVERS=="?",
ATTR{address}==“xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx”, ATTR{type}==“1”, KERNEL=="wlan
", NAME=
“wlan1”

All of the info should be on one line. It is the “ATTR{type}==1” that eliminates
the warning.
