I am wondering if there is a known bug with the battery level indicator on OpenSuse 11.3 Gnome.
The issue I have with my current distro is the battery level indicator will display discharging when it is, but when I plug it in and charge it fully, I can unplug it again and it will not update the status. It’s extremely annoying and I don’t want to have to fight with it, so I’m either going to write a workaround or if OpenSuse does not have a similar problem with the battery level indicator on Gnome then I’ll consider it.
Are there any known bugs relative to this issue (whether it be with hal not updating the status properly or whatever it may be) so that I can know if I’m going to get into the same boat if I switch distros?
Thank you,
C.
Not experiencing this in Gnome or KDE
caf4926,
I see in your sig you’re using Ubuntu 10.10. Are you not seeing that same kind of issue with that build?
I’m on 10.04 and it consistently happens. I’ll be working after having charged the laptop and it won’t update the status and I won’t know how long I have and then it will shut off in the middle of something.
So you see none of that with Gnome on 11.3 and there’s no bugs to that effect that you know of?
No. Non of my OS’s have this.
I wonder if it’s a suspend issue. Have the machines been in suspend at any time before ?
Test it with a re-boot, and see how it is. Then compare if the machine has been in suspend.
I was testing Ub* 10.01, just replaced it to try PCLinuxOS Gnome version 07.2010
I’ve closed the lid before once when it’s on, but that’s not something I do really at all. I think it’s setup to go to suspend at that point…but I don’t close it except after shutting down.
I just want to get the issue resolved and I know it’s not a remote issue because I’ve run into other threads about it and talked to users on the irc channel in that room.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. I think I may be giving OpenSuse a look tonight.
Thanks,
Chris
I am having the same problem with opensuse 11.3 if you create a workaround please email with it at andrew.east@gmail.com. I find this very frustrating and can not seem to find support on the matter before my battery dies. God forbid I had to sign in to my wifes vista computer to send this thread, LOL.
Chris, I think your problem is already reported in Bug #623355 (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=623355), where Salvatore found that the state of the power adapter connection is not reported correctly.
Andrew, I don’t think your problem is the same, since you report in Bug #624349 that your laptop does not charge, even if plugged in, if I understood correctly.
