Badblocks command

Hello,

I just installed openSUSE on an old computer to start learning Linux. As the PC is pretty old and the hard disk has a little over 1 year turned on I tried to search it for badblocks to see if it is any problem, so I opened a terminal and ran the command:

sudo badblocks /dev/sdb

(if it has any relevance I made 3 partitions, sdb1 - 8GB swap, sdb2 - 60GB Operating system and sdb3 - 230GB for /home)

After a long wait of almost an hour the command returned nothing, like this:

danielvladu@192-168-0-103:~> sudo badblocks /dev/sdb
danielvladu@192-168-0-103:~>

This means the harddisk is clean ?

Thanks in advance

No.
This means that it has no bad blocks, i.e. (hardware-wise) damaged regions on its surface.

Ok, that was what I meant saying clean.

Thanks
