I downloaded the drivers for my Lexmark x2600 AllInOne printer scanner from lexmark.com, and ran the script to set up the printer drivers on my OpenSuse 11.3 box, but when I print anything it just prints all black… The Yast printer setup shows the print queue is set up, and the printer application shows the printer as the default. I am confused… Has anybody else had this problem? Does anybody know where I can get drivers that work.
Hi,
I have a similar problem (Prestige Pro805): First page in a document prints OK, remaining pages become increasingly bad.
Lexmark is working on the problem. I will keep you posted.
Best regards,

Same problem as JC_Anker. But my printer is a HP Photosmart 7150. What is annoying is that it worked on 11.3 perfectly. Any suggestions?
Here is a hint, try this link:
The driver is from 4 May this year (2011) and seems to be for i386.

Did you make sure that the hplip package was installed first? How did you configure your printer - via YaST, CUPS web interface, or hp-setup?
Hello Deano,
you wrote

I my case, I downloaded the software from Lexmark’s Support and Download page:
and followed the instructions (a very nice and clear installation procedure). The Lexmark Pro805 driver is CUPS-based; Pro805 is not Post-Script compatible.
Hope this extra info is helpful.

Jan Christian
That is a good result concerning your Lexmark printer jc_anker. However, my reply was for JudasDisciple (HP printer).
I am aware of that. As you have noticed, JudasDiciple and I have the same problem with printing. Is it CUPS related or 11.4 related, or not? I would suspect 11.4
In both cases, the driver is likely to be the cause, but for HP-related printer issues, there are some ‘HP-specific’ configuration steps that need to be followed.
FWIW, I found this thread describing a printing issue under openSUSE 11.4, which manifests after the first page of printing:
I have curious problem. I have installed a printer on my laptop that was a Canon Pixma IP5200R.
On my desktop I installed a HP OfficeJet G95 (very old but working).
They both accept print jobs but after the first page problems begin.
On the top of the page a thin horizontal stripe is printed. After about half the page it print text over other text. It becomes one black blur at the end. If I more pages are printed the effect gets worse. Both printers have the same effect.
Both printers are network connected.
Workaround explained here:
(Refer to the Various printout failures with CUPS default “RIPCache 8m” section).
deano_ferrari, you are the GREATEST !
Problem is solved, adding the line “RIPCache 1024m” in “/etc/cups/cupsd.conf” did it.
Lexmark 2nd page printing problem is solved.
Lexmark support her in Norway has been very responsive, Lexmark international
support not too impressive.
Thanks for super help,

Nice to know it worked for you! Easy fix anyway, huh?
Yes, easy fix for sure. Lexmark support has been working on the problem since 30 March. I have informed Lexmark Norway - they give Windows support only and have to rely on Lexmark International for Linux support - about the fix. I am wondering whether Lexmark are so happy with their printers that they give a **** about selling them?
