Backup / Snapshot best practice

I installed my brand new Tumbleweed on a NVME ssd drive (1 TB).

I used btrfs and lvm

I also have a 1TB SATA SSD drive ( BTRFS)

WHich backup strategy should I use, rsync, TimeShift, etc

My goal is that if sometime is messed up after some update, to be able to get back on my feet

As for my files, they’re backed up to a SYnology Drive OffSite LOL so I’m good

I come from the arch world ( Manjaro) and I am not use to openSUSE. With Manjaro, I always ended up with a glitch from time to time…

Will now get used to openeSUSE…

I think you must first understand for yourself that Btrfs snapshots are NOT backups. They are a fallback for an update that breaks the system (as you already said above).

For real backups, you must have a backup policy/strategy that depends on your needs. Again, your text above shows that you already have one.

See them as two different things for two different purposes with no connection.

Agree

When my new openSUSE TW install updates, is there already some mechanism in place allowing me to roll back ?

Or I need to put something in place ?

I came to openSUSE for stability. The only weird tweak I made for now is to build some driver for my Canon Printer to work (what a ride it was LOL)

As said, files are good (backed up) but if I install something or an update mess up my machine, I want to get back on my feet quickly .

Yes. Snapper.

Tks will read about it on the link you sent
But it’s already enabled / DUMB proof LOL ?

Will read… have a good one

Strongly suggest to learn and use restic. It took me a bit to learn how it works, some time to test my backup strategy but now all my backups are done using restic.
