After searching around for a while, I settled on Grsync, which is a GUI front-end for rsync.
It suits my requirements nicely. You can install it via Yast > Software Management.
Please note : I only use it to back up my personal data i.e. photo’s, documents, etc. I don’t use to mirror my Suse partition.
Thanks.
Actually I’d like to create partition image for worst case scenario!
If necessary i’m ok to use a terminal prg but which one?
Take a look at “dar”
There is a gui for it – Kdar
Rsync (command line version) is much easier to use than most people think. You can set it up to do a full backup in just 1 line, you can add 1 more line to it and you’ll have snapshots for point in time restores.
I’ve posted on my blog some simple rsync examples:
Thanks I will try Rsych or Grsync (Gui version).
I think any backup tools are ok as long as you know how to use options.
My main problem is to know what are and where critical directories, files hidden etc that must be backup to get a system snapshot in case of full reinstallation.
I’ve just try Yast System backup but apparently only package installation difference are backup!
Don’t think so. It also scans for files that are not in any rpm and adds them to the archive it creates unless they are in folders you told it not to look into.
Altho, this will not give you a snapshot of your installation it does work as a backup. I think partimage would be a good one for you. Take a look at swerdna’s page. I think he has a tutorial for using partimage.
