backup opensuse update

Greetings.

I updated my version of opensuse with dvd. In the summary of the update had two options activated to backup changed files and one from /etc/sysconfig directory.

It is recommended to enable these options, and where is that backup is done?

Thank you.

Yes.

/var/adm/backup/

Would you be interested in giving a couple of examples why this is a good practice?

And, could you show an example or two of how someone could take advantage of these backups when something happens to make them glad they made them?

Nothing too complicated, but to give casual users an understanding why this is a good idea?

No, sorry, I don’t have an example out of the top of my head right now.
You never know when those backups may come handy, the last time I used
them for real was years ago. It does no harm to have them made, anyhow,
and they are small.

I do full backups of the entire system prior to a system upgrade, and I
often consult them, which is why I do not usually need those made by the
system. But if I were to repair somebody else’s system, having those in
place could help.

Oh, okay, thanks. 'Twas just a thought.

Yes, I do the same, and I emphatically agree with your advice on this.

Thanks again.
