installing problems of opensuse 11.1

hi,
while installing opensuse 11.1(openSUSE-11.1-DVD-x86_64.iso),only the welcome screen comes and then the system hangs…
i pressed Ctrl+Alt+F2 …the cursor stop after the line…
starting udev… udevd-event[71]: “sbin/modprobe” abnormal exit

i tried to reinstall it ,but this time i changed the kernel option from DEFAULT to NO ACPI
everything(i.e… installation) was working fine …,i aborted the installation to find out the consequences of installing opensuse 11.1 with NO ACPI

if possible can u tell me my present problems with MODPROBE ,ACPI…and how could i solve them…

My system configuration…
ASPIRE 5052nmxmi
AMD TURION 64X2 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY
ATI RADEON Xpress 1100
1GB RAM

THANKS IN ADVANCE…

acpi=off

is the choice you might want, the consequences? Well if you have had issues installing without it, at least with it you might get somewhere. You might need some fine tuning after the install is done.

thanks caf4926…
can i enable ACPI after installing suse with disabling it…

Usually if acpi=off is required as a boot option, that means that there is something faulty in the acpi tables that the bios produces. Actually, this is not uncommon. The kernel will use other methods to detect the hardware, and disabling the tables will not prevent the kernel from throttling your Turion processor.

thanks mingus…
i am going to install with ACPI off ,
but what might be the problem with modprobe…

I don’t think you have a problem. Modprobe is a command that loads a kernel module. The error was because of the acpi problem; you solved that. Therefore I wouldn’t expect the modprobe error again.
