I have been running the Axigen mail server on my 12.3 system for quite a while and no problems. The only thing I’ve done to the linux system was to add maintenance when it came out. Now Axigen won’t send mail nor receive mail. If sending a message out through Thunderbird through Axigen I get the message: "Connecting to <domain name>, then “Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server mail.foster-aviation.com timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.”
Just for jollies I tried to do a telnet to the IP address that the <domain name> uses and specifying the ports that Axigen listens on I get the response back “Unknown host”.
Tried contacting Axigen but after a few days still no response from them.
Is this Axigen server paid or free? Because if it is paid (I was contacted a good while back by them to buy their product) you should not limit yourself to “no response from them”… but make some noise.
Second - do you have some know-how related to mail servers and some related to this specific MTA you use? (I ask because the info you give is rather unclear and somehow confusing - maybe is just me, but you should try and elaborate how your WORKSTATION_CLIENT-MTA-WORLD is set up).
Third: that MX record (mail.foster-aviation.com) indeed times-out so AXIGEN gives you the right answer.
I do not understand your “just for jollies” procedure - so please elaborate: are you trying to telnet (I assume on the right port) to your OWN MTA or to the one that times out?
