and for drivers it seemes that suse keeps trying to use the rtl8180 driver which didnt work and caused my system to hang whenever i tried to configure the card so i tried to use ndiswrapper to use the rtl8185 drivers that came with the card.
and yes i have the latest updates for opensuse via a wired connection
the problem is that i cant even go into the network settings in yast to configure the thing with out my system hanging
im thinking if i cant get it going i might test it on an other distro but i do really need wireless working on suse
How did you get around this? I have exactly the same problem when I upgraded (clean install) of 11.1. I have a dual boot machine and my Trendware card works when I boot XP. I couldn’t even install 11.1 until I pulled the card. Since I can’t get my usb wireless to work, I’m back to find a solution for the previously working rtl8185.
I think you should try and blacklist the 8180 drivers and check if that helps
I would blacklist this driver… if I knew how. Could that keep me from booting? I thought it must be something more “fundamental” than a bad driver.
I have been trying to reinstall Linux in general, using the latest KDE/Kernal etc. using Kubuntu, Fedora and SuSE 11.1
ALL of them will not connect to the internet using the RTL8185. So it is not worth trying another distro. Stick to SuSE, as this seems to give the better distro. (s/w etc.)
I still cannot get it going, but I have found a driver for it from REALTEK.
Driver = rtl8185_linux_26[1].1027.0823.2007.tar.gz
I shall put it onto a RWCD as the floppy drive isn’t working either, and try it.
Nope. That didn’t work.
