Avoid updating Firefox to versions 114.0 and 114.0.1 in Tumbleweed

@larryr these are the specs: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/231803/intel-processor-n100-6m-cache-up-to-3-40-ghz.html

Only on the market since Q1 2023… they also enable guc/huc by default, no kernel taint, like my Celeron N9095 mini pc…

Hi all,

I started off this morning with this issue. There’s half my day gone!

I uninstalled it with yast. Downloaded V112 from Mozilla, and unpacked it into my home directory - it complained a bit, but it’s working. Before I could turn off auto-updates, it updated to V144, but it’s still working…

If someone could post on this thread when the bug is fixed, that would be great. I would like to reinstall it with yast…

Kind regards
Pedro

When you search for this crash signature libxul.so@0x3c912e0 | libxul.so@0x3da095a | firefox@0x17eee - Signature report - Mozilla Crash Reports it shows about 310 unique people (installations) effected. These are the people who reported this crash, some never do.

Another alternative would be having Flatpak version (official Mozilla release) installed. It works fine for most users.

Updating Firefox to version 114.0.1-5.1 fixed the issue for me. Firefox is up and running. A big thank you to Wolfgang Rosenauer for the fix.

As mentioned in this thread,

A bug in Firefox versions 114.0 and 114.0.1 was causing startup crash. This bug seems to have been fixed as described here,

The Bugzilla page lists the bug status as IN_PROGRESS so your mileage may vary but I’d advise you to update and launch the Firefox with fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

And what is the point in starting yet another topic in addition to already existing (there were at least two of them)? Most users do not monitor this forum - they post question and watch replies to their questions. So they will not notice your new topic anyway.

Moved this to the original topic.

I can’t find the updated version 114.0.1-5.1 that fixes the problem in the repo. Was it removed?

The main point to start it as a fresh topic was to make it relatively easier to meet the searching eyeballs.

I don’t have any insight into how people use this forum so…

I don’t know the reasons behind it but apparently the version 114.0.1-5.1 seems to have been removed from the repo at the time of writing this reply.

Hmmm. FF 114.0.2 installed here
.
ff-1140211

Just installed MozillaFirefox-114.0.2-1.1.x86_64 from regular updates and the issue is fixed.

Apparently it seems that the version with the fix has been renamed from 114.0.1-5.1 to 114.0.2-1.1 so installing 114.0.2-1.1 or higher should be fine.

Hi all,

The status of this bug is “in progress”. I’m going to wait…

Kind regards
Pedro
