avoid black popups in web browsers firefox chrome chromium brave

Hi, how can I avoid black popups when I hoover over links in web browsers?, I tried firefox, chrome, chromium, brave and all have the same behaviour, and sometimes they remain on desktop everywhere until I exit the browsers.

or is it possible to have them only when I press a stroke for example ctrl?
or at least is it possible to change color and trasparency?

Mine are always yellow in black. I think it’s caused by the DE’s or DM’s theme. How long they remain could also depend on the theme. What DE or WM and theme are you using?

sorry, as in other threads I often forget to indicate the desktop environment, it could be useful to propose to the web maintainer to oblige to indicate the DE like the prefix for 15.2 o 15.1 etc…
anyway I’m on KDE plasma
WM I suppose is window manager and it should be kwin, in system settings global theme is oxygen, plasma style is air, application style is oxygen, colors is a custom combination

I checked Plasma in TW20210110. In Firefox they are white on black. In SeaMonkey using its own Modern theme, which ignores system colors, it’s black on yellow. This suggests to me it’s a GTK3 theme setting.

These popups usually disappears after a short period of time.
Probably you have troubles with KDE + graphics driver.
Common thing with KDE + nouveau.
Try to use XRender instead of OpenGL: https://userbase.kde.org/Desktop_Effects_Performance .

We indeed have the experience that people are so exited about starting a thread that they forget the basic fact that nobody knows what they use and run. To bring those people back on earth we decided to ask for at least the OS version in the hope that they then clear up their mind and start their thread with extensive explaining what they use and run, what they do with it, what they expected to happen and what happened instead. In short, to make a good problem description.

We do not think we will follow your suggestion by an extensive interactive tree of questions about desktops (I think possibilities a re close to 10 different ones, inclusing none) other products used and so on. Were it alone for the impossibility to configure the software product used her for the forums (VBulletin) in such a way.

Behavior of your *black popups" puzzles me. However you may try to configure: browser.chrome.toolbar_tips = false

tryed but it doesn’t works, the black popups are still there

I was looking for to apply your suggestion, but in the system settings Version 5.20.5 I cannot find anymore the GTK settings, I remember that was there, but they disappeared now, or I cannot find and them are hided somewhere

It seems to be Web-site specific –

 • Those who do not have URLs which “pop-up black” – CNN, BBC, ARD – other news services – this Forum …
 • One which does have URLs which “pop-up black” – <https://www.heise.de/> …
 • But, the “Post Icons” and “Smileys” on this “Reply to Thread” – “pop-up black
