Avant Window Navigator

I am unable to run Avant. The install went well but it wont show up.

It can be run from the terminal, with the command ‘avant-window-navigator’, if it doesn’t show up in the menus. Have you tried that?

I’ve tried it and managed to make it a complete replacement to the default gnome-panel in Gnome. I’m not sure whether you can remove the default panel in KDE though :\ .

I use gnome, the icons show up in application menu but they dont go anywhere on clicking them.

I got this off terminal -

avant-window-navigator

(avant-window-navigator:28734): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_value_get_list: assertion `value != NULL' failed

** ERROR **: No panels to create!
** Please check that the gconf-schema is installed.
** You might also try to run `killall gconfd-2`.
aborting...

Looked for gconf-schema in YaST but it wasnt available.

Its has failed as per https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=avant-window-navigator&project=home%3Apsmt

The distro I’m running AWN in is Linux mint, so i’m not completely sure of its functioning flawlessly in opensuse. According to this guide, you need to start Avant window navigator from Utilities before starting it for the first time. But then this guide is for an older version of Suse, as far as I can see.

Yeah it works on 32 bits and some older versions. I’ve requested a friend to build a package for opensuse 11.2 x86_64. I’ve on Ubuntu and debian, it works well there.

Avant has a nice OS X-like feel about it. Hope AWN for Suse 64 bit gets built, i might want to use it if i try 11.3 Gnome. KDE’s default panel and looks are good enough for me, but the window borders are kind of non-artistic. well, that can be changed with a few clicks i suppose … :\

Well, I trust package will be available soon. The Cairo Docket works but it takes a lot of screen space and is ugly compared to awn.

Hi
Why not install the packman version?

david@linux-zsof:~> avant-window-navigator

I cant find gconf-schema package.

Hi
Did you install the extras package?

Else, I would jump on IRC or the mailing list and advise your having
issues so someone can fix?

I will let you know in a few, installing emerald atm.

Malcolm:

I installed extras but I still get the same error.

Best,

David

I’ve installed Avant-Windows-Navigator and awn-extras from
Contrib Repo (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/11.3:/Contrib/Standard/

I can run the navigator and all plug-ins (Applets) without crashing.

Maybe this will help you as well.

Thanks mate, will try my hands on it.
