Automatic Shutdown

hi,

i am using openSUSE 10.2, where in my server is getting shutdown periodically(may be 24 hrs). I think there no activity on the keyboard and mouse which leads to the shutdoen.

how can i disable it?

thanks and regards,
abhayadev s

Hi Abhayadev,

Does the shutdown happen at a specific time in the day?
Have you looked in the /var/log/messages to see if there is any specific action listed at the time of the shutdown?

Also, what DE (KDE, GNOME, …) are you using?

Could be there is something set in in your power management settings or BIOS causing the shutdown.

Good luck,
Wj

Hi,

i dont think of any particular time… may be i am watching it closly now.

an i am using the KDE.

the power managmnet looks fine…

thank you very much,
expecting your comments,

AFAICS it’s not shutting down, it’s going to sleep (suspend). Looks like you configured it to suspend after a certain amount of time elapsed with no activities. Please read through and check all settings in powermanagement. Check powermanagement both in KDE and Yast

The /var/log/messages you posted does not contain any events showing shutdown as far as I can see?
The shutdown of zmd is your Zenworks update agent that has checked for work to do, not found much and went back to sleep… nothing shocking there.

Please post output showing the shutdown occurring and activity before shutdown. If this info is not there then maybe an unexpected powerdown is the source (loss of AC for example)? If this is the case you will probably see messages about an unclean shutdown in /var/log/boot.*
