For the last few days, my auto log-on halts: gnome disappears and gray screen asks for user name, and has X-terminal with reading:
Failed to start LSB: configure network interfaces…
What is happening?
That’s xdm, the fallback login screen. And xdm doesn’t support Auto-Login.
Maybe you uninstalled gdm somehow?
Can you login?
