audio/video codecs

where do I install w32codecs and libdvdcss2? I have them in my forum history but it doesn’t show up anymore.

I have no idea as to what you mean. Forum history? Don’t show up? Where do you install ?

Typically libdvdcss2 is an rpm downloaded and installed from the videolan rpm software repository (repos). And w32codec-all is an rpm downloaded and installed from the packman repos.

Also libffmpeg0 (I recommend the packman packaged version over the videolan version) provides most of the codecs that a user needs, and you don’t mention that. Other useful codecs to install are xvid (also on the packman repos) and libquicktime0 (also hosted on packman repos).

Do you have your repositories setup for your openSUSE ? That should be the very 1st thing you do after a fresh install of opensuse. I recommend ONLY oss, non-oss, update and packman (and NO others). I repeat, NO others (you can add and remove “others” on an adhoc “IF” and “as required” basis). Instructions for doing that are here:
Repositories - openSUSE-Community

heres is a good link 1-click-collection - openSUSE-Community

here’s my repos:
URL: Index of /pub/packman/suse/11.0
URL: Index of /distribution/11.0/repo/non-oss
URL: Index of /distribution/11.0/repo/oss
URL: http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.0
URL: Index of /pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/11.0/
URL: Index of /distribution/11.0/repo/debug
URL: Index of /update/11.0
URL: Index of /distribution/11.0/repo/oss
URL: Index of /distribution/11.0/repo/non-oss

I deleted all but the top three that you mentioned. Maybe that why I have had conflicts trying to install certain programs.

Keep only oss, non-oss, update and packman.
You have two OSS. No need. Delete one.
You have two NON-OSS. No need. Delete one.
Remove videolan.
Remove debug.
Remove nvidia.

You can always add back videolan and nvidia on an if and required basis.

did it, thanks
