I recently began hearing severe static through my Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum. When I first boot up, there is no static, but it starts as soon as sound is used. The static seems worse when nothing is playing and only the WAVE volume setting has any impact. Once the static vanished when I killed the pulseaudio process but that hasn’t worked since. When rebooting, the static persists even after all processes have been killed and stops only when the computer switches off. Suggestions for diagnosing (and hopefully resolving) this issue would be most appreciated, for it has become unbearable.
A silly suggestion … but … .what the heck … I’ll throw it up, and be flamed for it … Do you have a 3 pronged power plug? or a two pronged plug? Look at the power plug for your speakers and your PC, and try reversing them 180 degrees if they are 2 pronged. This could be a simple grounding problem
The computer has a three-pronged plug and I’m listening to headphones plugged into the Audigy Drive. I really think the static is caused by software, as it starts and stops abruptly.
