Audacity not working in 15.5?

Try once more because I build some packages new:
sudo zypper dup --allow-vendor-change --from Sauerland

Now:

sudo /sbin/ldconfig /usr/lib64/audacity

and
audacity

Same result - startup icon window flashes then no audacity.

patti@linux-lhkc:~> sudo zypper dup --allow-vendor-change --from Sauerland

I do not know, what is going on on your system, excuse me…

No idea anymore.

FWIW, a similar Manjaro thread:

Thank you very much for taking the time and I’m sorry if I’ve wasted your time! It was very kind to try to help me. At least I feel less stupid for not being able to solve this problem myself. Thanks again.

Also, now I know about your repository. If I do a reinstall of 15.5, then I’ll definitely benefit from your repo. I sometimes wonder if odd one-off problems like this in an otherwise fully-functional system are associated with btrfs? Apparently there are still problems with btrfs. I use JBOD raid on my system (two identical SSD’s). I guess I don’t actually need btrfs for a flat filesystem to span both disks…

Hi Deano - I forgot to g00gle the error! (Gdk-CRITICAL) I’m getting so forgetful as I approach 70, though I’ve been on opensuse for over 20 years! BTW: everything else works great. It’s very odd. THANK YOU for reminding me to do this!!

I wonder if Audacity is still being actively kept-up?

BTW: Deano - did you see the part about Audacity working fine on my “spare” 15.5 laptop?

So we know it’s something with my system on my work laptop. Trouble is, what?? Everything else works fine, except Spectacle - sometimes when I hit the “take a snapshot” button (of an arbitrary rectangle), Spectacle just disappears… then I restart it and it comes up in the process of showing the rectangle for the snapshot. This is weird. But I have noticed no other odd behaviors in Virtualbox, Thunderbird, games (including FPS), Libreoffice, Electron Mail, Signal Desktop, etc., or KDE and its apps in general… altho firefox seems a tad flaky, so I also use Brave and Chromium…

I did run rkhunter and there wasn’t anything obviously significant. Maybe I should just do a bare metal reinstall of 15.5.

I’m really not sure. I know this isn’t a solution as such, but have you considered using an alternative audio editor such as ocenaudio, Rosegarden, or Ardour?

Well, yes - and thank you for mentioning those - I didn’t know what the alternatives to audacity were. Often, though, when these odd things happen, it makes me worry about my system… hacked, broken, or ???

I was wondering, I should probably look at a system “logfile” of some sort to see what happens when I start audacity. I think there’s a grep command I could use, or else delete/rename/empty the existing logfile then try starting audacity and see what shows up in there.

Basic troubleshooting

1 Be sure you don’t have any non standard repos except packman

2 Try another user it may be a config problem

3 clear ~/.cache in case of bad cache files

4 start program from Konsole command line note any errors

But you took your time to read through the complete thread?

Over time it is long and I don’t reread threads like this. I thought I’d simplify basic troubleshooting for the OP

Hey gogal - NTW… and thanks!!

I was at the point of looking for some sort of command like grep {something related to audacity out of a logfile}. I should have learned grep a LONG time ago. At least I know vi!
Rule 1 of linux - “thou shalt know vi” (source currently unknown…)

I got Audacity 3.4.2 to work in Leap15.5 by using Discover to install it from flatpak. All the feature of Audacity appear to be working.
I had found AppImage and snap did not work.

Unfortunately Audacity 3.4.2 from flatpak did work for a short time. Although it dis load up some bugs developed that would not allow recordings.

Hello, I’m getting an error message when attempting to add your repo:

An error occurred during repository initialization. Error refreshing service service (https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Sauerland:/mixx/15.5/): File ‘./repo/repoindex.xml’ not found on medium ‘https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Sauerland:/mixx/15.5/?cookies=0

Also, when attempting to add your repo, the URL gets pushed under “services” instead of “repositories” in YAST. Thanks in advance.

Randolph

The issue was discussed here before. There is a fix on its way, but unfortunately you have to wait a bit before it gets pushed to Leap. In the meantime you could use zypper ar command to add a repository.

I did a check on Sauerland’s repo and got this result:

localhost:/home/randolph # zypper -c https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Sauerland:/mixx/15.5/
Warning: Config file '/home/randolph/https:/download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Sauerland:/mixx/15.5' does not exist.

Should I be worried or can I add this repo as normal? Thanks in advance.

My mixx Repo is there, you can use it.

But:
audicty is only a branch of the multimedia:apps Repo ones, you can also use that Repo.

And please do not use multimedia:libs Repo if you don’t know how to use it.
Mostly the packages from there confilicts with the Packman repo.

PS:
zypper -c is not the right way…
