audacity: no sound

I have no sound output from audacity, even though other apps have sound. I have tried the various outputs under preferences, but had no luck. Is this an issue with pulsaudio? I only show one capture and one playback in alsamixer. How can I get plain old alsa?

Yes, Audacity doesn’t works with PulseAudio.
Use the version from multimedia:apps OBS repo, that will be available in openSUSE 11.2. That one is patched to work with PA… in 11.2 without problems, in 11.1 you need to use the “pulse” output (that isn’t shown in the default Audacity from openSUSE 11.1).

Is the new version installable through yast for 11.1? What about installing alsa?

It is once you add the multimedia:apps OBS repo… but I just saw the repository builds the packages but doesn’t publishes them, no idea about why.
Better add the “home:RedDwarf:multimedia:backports” repo… or search audacity at Software.openSUSE.org and install the one from home:RedDwarf:multimedia:backports. This one is better anyway since it has MP3 support.

You already have ALSA. No need to touch it.

I uninstalled and tried the red dwarf version, but still there is no sound.

What version of Audacity? I was using Audacity 1.2.2 from the
distribution, and I’m pretty sure that worked ok.

I built Audacity 1.3.7 from source (get from their sourceforge site, get
the “whole” source package, which then includes all of the dependancies)
as well as Audacity 1.3.8 and both have working sound output.
