Atunes won't work

I installed Atunes from the repositories, yet it won’t work. I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it again off 1-click install and still it won’t work. I also ran into this problem with Pidgin, for some reason. The program tries to run, but it won’t start. Anyone have any ideas? I guess I’m missing some files? Thanks for any help!

Can we assume correctly, you installed this from Packman?

Make sure all your Packman packages are updated
In Yast Software Management
filter by repo - go to Packman
check there are No packages with Blue text

You didn’t really explain HOW it wasn’t working. Does it start the program?
If Yes. Is it just that it will not play files?

And what’s wrong with Amarok?

OK I had several with blue text in Pacman repository, I’m updating them now. Maybe that will help me. Amarok is doing strange things like not playing songs correctly or they will skip when I am browsing with FF, but this does not occur when I use other programs to play music. I love Amarok but it gets slow on me and I thought I’d try Atunes.

As for the programs, it shows the hourglass and the program name, but after about 10 seconds it vanishes and nothing happens. So it’s like the program tried to start up, but just never started up. I looked at Performance Monitor on process table, and these programs never show up on the list either, so technically they aren’t starting.

I updated the blue lined texts, but Atunes it still not starting up. I’ll recheck it in the morning. Thanks again and if you need more info, just let me know. Thanks so much!

to figure out why aTunes is not starting you need to run it from the konsole , the command should be /usr/bin/aTunes.sh - the reason you may be having problems could be java based and any error messages should help explain.

you don’t note what release of Suse, kde or Amarok you’re running nor which sound backend of amarok you chose (assuming the kde3 version)

Suse 11.0 x64, Kde 4.1beta (factory repo), Opera 9.x weekly

I have the same problem as the OP. I ran aTunes.sh thru the shell, and it told me that there was already an instance running. Several things would be helpful here:

  1. A shell command which yields a list of all processes/dependencies associated with a program (namely aTunes)
  2. Or a way to kill all of said processes/dependencies.

As a note, the “killall” command yields no result when entered as “killall aTunes”. This is mainly because there is no aTunes process running.
