I am trying to use overdrive commands via aticonfig.
when I use
aticonfig --odgt
or anything related, I get an error:
[ERROR - X needs to be running to perform AMD Overdrive(TM) commands](https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179845.msg1876890#msg1876890)
since I am typing this into a Konsole window, I’m pretty sure X is running.
From what I gather, aticonfig looks for xinit (maybe)
any help?

And how exactly are you running aticonfig?
If you use “su” or “sudo” to get root privileges it won’t find the X session on openSUSE.
You have to use “su -” (notice the ‘-’) to switch to root.
perfect.
I looked on dozens of other forums for the answer and not one mentioned su -
One million internets to you sir!
