Anyone seeing very noticeable shearing effects when moving windows sideways
on the KDE desktop.
I have a feeling this started with the newer 9.7 ATI propriety drivers I
installed yesterday but also I did do an update which included the latest
kwin and all things KDE 4.3 at the same time.
This happens with or without running though so it is down to maybe the
drivers or the kernel ( which is the new one as well )
No other settings changed as far as I know.
I like the wobblies but have noticed that they appear jerky when moving
laterally with some shearing/tearing, have tried changing to triplebuffer,
fastest, double buffer with no obvious change, used vsync on and off same
again.
Or is it just me ol eyes finally packing in

Running both sled11 amd opensuse with the older repo drivers and all is fine for me on both my radeon pcs.
Could be ati driver or kernel update.
Did you re-build the driver from the ati setup script for the new kernel?

yep certainly did I will see what the results are on another ATI machine
when I get it installed.
It could just be me not noticing before but I doubt it.
There is a distinct shearing in the vertical lines when moving a window
across the screen, if I enable wobblies the lines look like angles sections
as if it splits them into smaller sections and so gives a staircase effect.
Hard to explain and impossible to screen shot
But if you take this as an example:

That is what the sides of a window look like when moving, approx 6 definite
sections on say a 800x600 pixel window.
Well I can live with it.

Since you can live with it and after all it’s linux and didn’t cost, I guess the ‘Caveat Emptor’ applies.
Having had a closer look and moving the window around quickly, I also get it.
It’s probably a combination of display card and monitor not being able to keep up.
If it’s any consolation. the same thing happens with nvidia.

Yeah thanks whych,
As I say it might have been there before but not as pronounced was just
wondering if anyone else had seen such “features”
