Do I need to build the ATi driver from source or is there an ATi repository? So far I can’t find an ATi repository.

thx

Hey I have an x1270 in my laptop, however FGLRX (the ATi proprietary driver) has been giving me a white screen after login. So I’ve been using RadeonHD that comes with openSUSE. However the guide for installing ATi’s drivers can be found here ATI - openSUSE. Good luck!

when I installed opensuse11 I could not add the community repos. I ran the updates and then I could add the repos. I noticed that the fglrx was built for the original kernel but the updates had bumped up my kernel revision. So i used the ATi installer which built the driver against my new kernel rev.

ATI missed out on providing drivers for new kernel 2.6.27.19-3.2.

Due to an ABI-change, which will make all kmp-packages for 2.6.27.7 incompatible with kernel 2.6.27.19, building your own fglrx-RPM from ATI-installer and deinstalling packages from ATI-repository is the only good solution this time as “not upgrading kernel” is no solution.
