Does anybody know how to make work this graphic card y openSUSE 11.1???
I downloaded the 9.5 and 9.6 official driver from the AMD-ATi homepage, but i cant install them. I get the next error message installing the Driver:
ati-driver-installer-9-6-x86.x86_64.run: line 293: ./ati-installer.sh: Permiso denegado
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.jrs4Ng
Permiso denegado means something like authorization denied (i’m from Spain)
I usualy use Ubuntu Linux (9.04) and i have no problem installing the ATi Drivers in that distribution, but i got problems in Mandriva and OpenSuse distris.

This may be a stupid question but you are running it as root?
Have you installed the propriety ones before?
If not have you got all the needed apps installed as well, make, gcc, kernel
headers etc…?
I saw your post so d/loaded, dropped to a console, logged in as root, init
3, executed the ati file and it took approx 30secs to install, init 5 and
have just tested on Doom3 no probs.
Yeah, i’m running it logged as root … but it doesn’t work
I’m gonna try it again, but, in Ubuntu i didn’t get any problem… i dropped to a console, init 3 (with sudo), sh ati-installation-file.run, init 5 or reboot, and i got my drivers working, playing WarSow, Tremolous, and Nexuiz, for example with no problems, and ATi Control Panel works fine too in Ubuntu… :\

Try “logging” out of KDE/Gnome and at the login screen there is a menu to
“Console login” this will drop you to a console and login as root ( do not
use sudo) enter the root pass and then drop to init 3 and see if you can
install then…
sudo only works for one command so you really need to be proper root to
install as I am not sure if it will carry to all the underlying commands
needed to install the drivers.
At least that is the way my tired grey cells think tonight
I used “sudo” in Ubuntu 9.04… in openSUSE 11.1 I got looged as root dropped to a text console (Cntrl + Alt + F1).
I did it as root (not using “sudo”), anyway it did work using “sudo” in Ubuntu.
“At least that is the way my tired grey cells think tonight” <— lol, I’m a little tired too, 'cause Mandriva and openSUSE are making me crazy, Debian and Ubuntu are the easiest dists for me, anyway, I like to try as dists as i can, but Mandriva and openSUSE are distroying my peaceful life! lol
Nobody with a Radeon card working on his openSuse?
Then, could you install hte Catalyst Drivers in OpenSuse? how did you do that?.. please tell my, cause in my suse installer doesn’t start and i can’t generate a package either using “sh driver-name.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE111-IA32” (logged as root)
And instaling Catalyst Drivers in Ubuntu has no problems (i think it must be the same on Debian), it’s very easy
Go to a text console
type init 3
go to the driver folder
type sudo sh driver-name.run
the installer will show you what to do, and it will modify the xorg.conf by itself
reboot the system or use init 5
and it will work without problems.

The same (almost) with SoSE with a slight variation
Easiest way while at the gui logon screen you can either in the menu selct
console login or press Ctrl+Alt+F1
Login as root enter password for root then init 3, this will stop the
xserver.
follow your steps but after you have run the script you need to use:
aticonfig --initial
This will then alter the xorg, DO NOT use sax2 to configure the graphics you
can change settings later in the gui with the catalyst app:
amdcccle
then you can reboot if you want or try init 5.
I have sometimes seen that it can take 2 reboots to get the driver to take
but that was a while ago, I just updated my drivers to 9.6 the other day
took all of 3 mins at the console from init 3 to init 5 ( most of the time
finding where I had put the d^mn things when I d/loaded )
However I did have the older ones already installed so did not need to run
the aticonfig again, you only need that the first time you install the
propriety drivers all installs afterwards do not need it.
