I’m trying to install openSUSE 11.0 on my PC with an ATI HD3450. Everything installs perfectly but after booting into the system the first time my LCD-screen is black. If I’m booting with “x11failsafe” I can log in.
Anyone can help?

Enable the ATI drivers repository and install the ΑΤΙ (fglrx) driver.
I’ve tried it, but it didn’t work.
I downloaded the ATI driver from their website (followed the instructions), but it didn’t work either.
Guess no luck with the ATI HD3450 and linux.
There have been lots of change to the Xorg ATI driver since 11.0 was released - one of the options is to upgrade your Xorg from : Index of /repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.0/i586
The other is to run in VESA mode aka configure Xorg from terminal with : sax -r -m 0=vesa
Hi Chrysantine.
Can you clarify a few things for me, from your post? I had an identical problem when I installed 11.0 which I thought was just released. Even though I have a somewhat older ATI card AIW 8500. Are you saying there have been many changes made to Xorg since 11.0 was released? Even though the release seems to have been so recent?
I’m also curious whether 11.0 comes with Xorg 7.3 by default? Lastly I wonder if fglrx driver is installed by default when 11.0 is installed?
Thanks.
Rudy
FB88,
which desktop environment are you using? KDE3.x, KDE4, Gnome? I am not having this problem with my HD3870 on openSUSE 11 with gnome, but I am having a (Dell 20" widescreen) monitor issue with openSUSE 11 KDE4 and my Radeon x1600. I am thinking it could be KDE4, but so far I’ve seen many reports, but no answers.
