I installed OpenSUSE 11.4, and now i found the instructions to install ATI drivers. Okey, i installed same way like in instructions in YaST, i rebooted, now i dont have effects, and they doesnt turn on, actually it says they are ON but they are stopped, i try to continue they doesnt go ON. And when trying to move window, its laggy and scrolling on internet browser is laggy. With open source drivers it works, but i need the fglrx because i play some Linux native games, like Urban Terror. Im newbie in OpenSUSE (Today is my first day with OpenSuse!)
Have a read here
openSUSE Forums - ATI driver with atiupgrade
How did you install it?
Please post the result of the following commands:
lsmod | grep fglrx
rpm -qa | grep fglrx
su -c 'aticonfig --initial=check'
Are you using KDE or Gnome?
I already deleted that driver, now i try that atiupgrade, i will say what happens after that. BTW, nice quick support here. =) And i use KDE
This is what i got by using atiupgrade:
linux:~ # atiupgrade
(0) - creating /usr/share/atiupgrade directory…
(1) - analyzing system…
(2) - get latest Catalyst version number…
(3) - checking required packages…
* kernel-source is aready installed
* kernel-desktop-devel is aready installed
* kernel-syms is aready installed
* gcc is aready installed
* make is aready installed
directory /usr/src/linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 not found. Make sure that kernel 2.6.37.1-1.2 sources are installed.
linux:~ #
Ehm… What i should do?
Hey, i installed updates, and ran the atiupgrade, and now all works! Thanks!
You have @please_try_again to thank for that work
Well thanks for him, happy to use openSUSE now instead of Ubuntu, because Unity is so laggy with my computer. =( Thanks again very much, KDE works **** fast even with my crappy laptop.
openSUSE is seen as a leader in KDE distros
Great team and support
BTW, i dont want to make new topic for small thing, but im having little problem with aMSN, i cant get sounds working in aMSN, in all other apps sound work.
I don’t use it
Have you tried kopete? Though I have to say I only use keyboard in that anyway.
Fixed by my own, from settings it was play $sound but i changed it to aplay $sound and now my sound in aMSN works.
Just tried this and the ATI installer exited with an error. I am not sure where to find the log that this error info was written to so I can post it for assistance.
Can someone direct me?
TIA
Run it again and tell us what you see.
Open a terminal and type:
su -l
atiupgrade
Copy/paste the output here.
Sorry it took me a bit to respond! Finally got the install to work after getting the script directly from the server.
I have an issue now with the Catalyst program itself. It is quitting when I try to apply new settings. I have tried the install on 2 different installations on the same machine, with the same results. I cannot find a log for this
Posted this on a new thread, but received no replies yet.
When 12.1 gets released, will atiupgrade work with 12.1?
