ATI Catalyst 10.7 on 11.3 64bit

I downloaded the new Catalyst Package from ATI

https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-10-7-x86.x86_64.run

and I don’t know what happened. Installed fine restarted.

It starts loading fine then screen flickers like crazy Gnome Desktop won’t load.

Kicks me over to console type log in.

Starting vmtoolsd FATAL : Module vmmemctl not found.

gdm[1586]: WARNING: GdmDisplay : display lasted 2.12 seconds

Gdm[1586]: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maxium number of X display failures reached: check x server log for errors.

I type StartX and is states

(ee) fglrx(0): firegl_setsuspendresumestate FAILED -9.

Anyone got ideas? Is it going to happen with every computer running 11.3?

Hi.

I just came back to open suse and I’m wondering from this thread… is there any way to install the driver through yast? I’m using the 64 bit version of 11.3 btw. Please say there is. I don’t care if it’s not up to date. =D

There is an ATI Catalyst repository, but its not updated to 10.7, so it wont be able to install on 11.3, which used kernel 2.6.34.

Nope. anything before Catalyst 10.7 will not let you install. Repository dont work. 10.7 lets you install but as you can see it hates opensuse. I caught a console command from ATI before I hit finished. Something about aticonfig ect command. It was a incase xserver dont start do this. I did and nothing… same problems. So I just reinstalled 11.3 on Laptop don’t plan to install drivers until they work. I read some posts saying 10.7 was going to work on Opensuse 11.3 GM i don’t see that… LIES!!! lol I did try 10.7 ati drivers on Ubuntu 10.4 and they installed without a problem.

  • Mylaptop is running Opensuse 11.3 GM 64-bit gnome and video card is a ATI Radeon 3200 HD -

On a different note Ati Catalyst 10.7 installed under Ubuntu 10.4 64-bit.

Catalyst 10.7 works well here. openSUSE 11.3 GM x86_64, Mobility Radeon HD3200.

Im using it on kernel 2.6.34, which is the one 11.3 brings, and its working.

I used Opensuse with KDE and Gnome : installed all the patches / upgrades : and installed Catalyst 10.7 both did same thing. I even ran the packaged installer for 11.3 amd64 in the Catalyst install and tried that way. Same Problems.

Its saying that part of firegl module wasnt installed. I ran installer again from the text console and when it exit all the text was corrupted and gave same (ee) fglrx(0): firegl_setsuspendresumestate FAILED -9. at end. I don’t know whats wrong. These were fresh downloads of Opensuse and patched before installing . I don’t know what you did to get it running on your Opensuse version but KDE and Gnome live disks failed for me.

im just going to write if off that theres some serious problem with 11.3 and catalyst drivers. Going to switch back to ubuntu. If things work in the future might come back to opensuse. There is no explanation why I get repeated failures with clean downloads of 11.3 KDE and Gnome Live disks fully patched but ubuntu 10.4 works fine.
