ATI 1950X

Hi…

Are there some in recent fglrx-drivers? I just encountered some strange things: After the installation of fglrx i tried to execute

sax2

. So far, so good but as soon as I try to save my configuration the screen becomes black and there is no startup by

startx

possible.

I executed the following commands:

su
init 3
ldconfig
aticonfig --initial
sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx
restart of the graphicserver
amdcccle for dualhead

I have SUSE 11.1 and KDE 4.2 installed and acutally a freshly installed system.

uname -r gives me

2.6.27.7-9-pae

and rpm -qa | grep kernel

kernel-pae-base-2.6.27.7-9.1
kernel-pae-2.6.27.7-9.1
kernel-pae-extra-2.6.27.7-9.1

So… what should I do now? The command mentioned above did not work the last time…

Thank you all in advance…

Scyth

How did you install the driver - via ati repo or from the ati install?
Either way, after installation and a reboot, I found the driver works with an older 939 m/board.

I installed them via the ATI-repositories.
Somewhy I believe, that it has something todo with the 2 screens I use… this is the xorg.conf of the last installation:

Looks like it’s trying to find the monitor on a differeent output.
When you installed and ran the configure, I take it that the server started normally?
I seem to remember having problems with my card when 11.1 first came out.
The trick was to run the installer program as root in runlevel 3 (no gui)
I then configured it with sax.
On another system, I had problems with SLES 11 so I just installed the driver and ran sax2 with no parameters.
If this doesn’t work, add the ati repo and install the pae driver, reboot if it installs a new kernel and then set up sax2 in runlevel 3.

Well… no… as soon as I hit the ‘Save’ button in sax2 the screen became black.
That’s quite interesting, I think: he starts up with the configuration but it seems as if he won’t like it as soon as he should write it into the file.
