ATI 10.6 Driver/Google Earth & Compiz - Transparent Backgoung

Hi Folks,

anyone else run into an issue with a transparent star-field where you can see the desktop instead of the stars/blackness around the globe) on google earth 5.1 and 5.2 ?

In actual fact it does look cool as the globe appears out of the desktop !

I think it’s to do with the new 2D acceleration (direct 2D) and compiz not playing nicely as the issue is not seen with Kwin. By the way folks the new 10.6 drivers really have speeded things up compared to 10.3 and no other apps have as yet presented any issues.

Any thoughts people ?

Fixed it using env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

It’s the first time I’ve had to use that fix on an ATI card - normally had to keep in reserve for NVIDIA ?

Can anyone give a good explanation why this fix works and what exactly is the cause, cairo - dock ?
