Atheros ar928x

I’ve installed 64-bit OpenSuse 11 with kde 3.5 on an Acer Aspire 7530 laptop, it has a wireless b/g/n pci adaptor called Atheros ar928x

The entry for it in lspci is:

6:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. Device 002a (rev 01)

Done some googling and it uses a driver called ath9k but all I seem to find is links to other forums where other people are asking where they can get it, and mentions of madwifi which I’ve installed but that hasn’t helped

From the madwifi readme: First, run “modprobe ath_pci”

When I run it I get this: FATAL: Module ath_pci not found.

Here’s a link to a screenshot of the enntry for the device in Yast’s Hardware Information:

Can anyone give many help on gettin this device working before I give up and try the windows drivers under ndiswrapper?

a) ath9k is included in kernel >= 2.6.26

b) ath_pci is not found because madwifi is not installed, but it will most certainly not support your device

Read the stickies in the wireless-forum and give more information, also “openSUSE 11” can mean 11.0 or 11.1, so be more precise on that.

Hi
I’m running one here fine, although it does only show connection at 1
Mb/s it does actually run fine connecting to my g network. Seems to be
around 48Mb/s.

01:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless
Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
Subsystem: Device 1a3b:1067

I’m using Gnome and it works out of the box with the Network Manager.
