I have a Toshiba Equium Laptop with an Atheros AR007EG wireless network card. My computer duel boots with Windows Vista and Opensuse 11-default.
I have tried everything I can find on the internet to get the wireless card work but nothing seems to work. I have tired using Madwifi but that didn’t work, I have also tried using ndiswrapper it installed the driver and tried setting up with the network configuration tools but still not working.
The wireless card is listed in the network configuration but it says that it can not be configured because the kernel module is missing.
Uninstall whatever you’ve done to try to get it to work (which I suggest only because I don’t know enough to tell you how to check this or that regarding your current status), then follow this thread:
^^That’s the thread that helped me get mine working. Despite the title, it is NOT specific to the PAE kernel.
And although it does use madwifi, I found that madwifi from the openSUSE repo’s didn’t work for me, but obtaining it and installing it as noted in the thread did work. YMMV…
I suggest you read the whole thread (only 6 posts) first as there are some prereq’s that are likely to snag you if you are new to openSUSE/Linux (well, they snagged me anyway), and these are not spelled out in the first post.

I used to have it working rather unstable with ndiswrapper. Now in openSUSE
11.0 I have it working using madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6. Google for that and you
will find some advice on how to install it. After installation I just
renamed the file /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0 to ifcfg-ath0 and off
it went.
In openSUSE 11.1 the ath5k driver works, although configuring it with YaST
does not work, only wmaster0 shows up, but that is just a helper device for
wlan0. Here I simply copied the ifcfg-ath0 from 11.0 to ifcfg-wlan0 on 11.1
and wifi works.
Hello All,
I have a problem like that, (OPENSUSE 11, ATHEROS) and until now it is not solved.
i have tried to use ndiswrapper method
when i type “ndiswrapper -l”, the result was returned is “netathw : driver installed device (168C:002A) present”
but when i tried to "ifup wlan0 ", it was not work, “Interface wlan0 is not available”
