Hello,
I just installed 11.1 on to my HP dz5z (with AR5007 wireless card).
I am wondering if anyone has gotten the AR5007 to work using NDIS wrapper with a 64 bit driver? Someone told me that the Vista driver will not work in openSUSE, but I am having a really hard time finding a 64 bit XP driver for this card…
I would much rather use NDIS wrapper over using the madwifi driver, as I have heard that madwifi does some really weird things to your wireless card, but if need be I will use it…
Anything that can help point me in the right direction will be greatl appreciated!!!
Thank You
AFAIK, Vista drivers do not work with ndiswrapper.
Another alternative is to get the compat-wireless drivers from http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download. Those drivers match what will be in
kernel 2.6.29. There has been a lot of work on the Atheros drivers there. You
will need the gcc, make, and kernel headers packages installed.
Search the forum for “ndiswrapper” & “andrew18”; Andrew has one of the best guides for ndiswrapper;)
AR5007 should work out of the box with 11.1. Is it not detected in Yast > Network Devices > Network Settings? You need to fill in “all” the network extensions;)
Alright I have been working a lot but finally time to get back to this… Thanks again for all the help
When I open the Network Settings I get an error message that say the network is controlled by NetworkManager and I cannot change any settings through Yast…
But, Yes, it does find my card but sees it as being an AR242x (not configure), could this be my issue in that it sees it as a different card?
Alright nevermind, Im an idiot, I didn’t think that it would be that easy… I can now connect to networks but can’t really test it b/c I am at work and they took the wireless down…
Thanks again everyone, sorry for being so stupid!!
I have an atheros 242x on my laptop running linux suse 11.0.
Linux recognise my wireless card, but does not have its driver. I learnt that i have to use madwifi, but no to avail.
Under the network settings in YAST…
AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (Not connected)
BusID : 0000:03:00.0
Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details.
I typed onto the command prompt, ‘uname -a’ and it gave me:
Linux linux-ckay 2.6.25.5-1.1-pae #1 SMP 2008-06-07 01:55:22 +0200 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
I also typed ‘dmesg’ on the cmd prompt and displays:
SPT=5353 DPT=5353 LEN=56
SFW2-INext-DROP-DEFLT IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=01:00:5e:00:00:fb:00:16:d4:94:3d:c2:08:00 SRC=10.2.2.8 DST=224.0.0.251 LEN=76 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=255 ID=27 PROTO=UDP …blah blah blah…
I need serious help pls someone anyone…HELP!!!
I’m new to linuxish.
Click on the detected device > edit & there will be tabs, one of those, or one of the others, will allow you to chose “if up” vice “network manager”; chose to have it loaded @ boot. All the windows on all the tabs have to be filled out & match the router setup.
Hint, turn off the firewall until you have it working.
snakedriver…i know your message is for newbs08,but i’m having similar problem. but mine doesnt have it as being controlled by the network manager.
I followed you instructions anyway, but the edit button is num…Any other way i can make this work?
Note…I dont have madwifi up and running yet.HELP PLEASE!!!
