I have been trapped it seemed forever in the wretched world of windows 7 because I do day trading and must have a super reliable link to live online data for derivatives. I gave up trying in Linux because the trading interface is web-browser java stuff. And it just wouldn’t work in openSUSE.
So I’ve been locked in this endless cycle of “activations” and lock-ups in ms office 2003 and 2007 and every now and then uninstalling and reinstalling office and/or installing and uninstalling open office and/or reinstalling windows over and over and swearing and despair at the instability of windows OS, just trying to keep it working sweet.
And no Vmware or similar is up to the job when income is involved.
And the endless multibooting from openSUSE to windows – blah!!!
Then to-day I tried again in Linux as I do every so often – and guess what! Suddenly after a bunch of Yast Online Update stuff my trading interface works — you little ripper!!! (as they say down here in Oz).
So now I can leave windows forever (except I’ve got an Iphone, dammit!)
Anyway what a joy, what a joy, not to have to spend hours each day in windows any more.
lol! Until the next bunch of updates…
Sorry to rain on your parade, but MS could be working on it as we speak. Only joking. Enjoy it - for as long as it’s possible.

hmmmm…unlucky for you…i say because my online broker is
www.tdameritrade.com/ and i’ve been using various Linux distros with
their java implementation of a tracker/order issue app since '82 (about)…
what i’m saying is i think it is more likely your broker has changed
their ways than something new in openSUSE now makes it smooth…
happy trading!
ps: it might be time to catch some BP gravy!

You might have engaged brain before making that remark, and possibly consider donating any profits from such a trade to victims of the disaster or its aftermath.

Hmm… maybe so DD.
Regarding BP – now there’s a sinking ship if ever I saw one.
But as consused noted, it’s s sad sad situation.

it is very very sad indeed…i have several close and dear friends in
the vicinity of the gulf coast and have personally spent many days on
or very near the coast…
my comment was certainly not to make light of the situation but simply
to point out that there IS money to be made with their stock (short or
long i didn’t, and won’t predict)…
and, what i decide to do with profits i might make (or not) in that
market is of no concern to any here…perhaps i forward some or all to
my friends on the coast, or in Haiti, or flood victims in Chin,
grandchildren so they can swim in the still clean Texas coast, or just
let the TaxMan have the job to distro it…
