Asus UX32VD brightness/keyboard backlight control

Hi all,

I just installed openSUSE 12.3 on an Asus UX32VD laptop,

And unfortunately, brightness and keyboard backlight controller are not working. Solutions given here(the commands) Asus UX32VD [Linux Laptop Wiki] are working great, is there a way to integrate that settings with KDE so that I can use KDE controllers to change brightness/keyboard backlight ?

Or are there any other ways to change brightness without manually running commands from terminal?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

try the kernel parameter (add by yast/bootloader):
acpi_osi="!Windows 2012"

it works for Asus UX31A (which is very similar to UX32VD). The brightness can be controlled by power management and the FN Keys are working.

I have no solution for controlling the keyboard backlight using the FN keys (when I close the notebook and afterwards open the notebook, the keyboard lights are off :P).

Best wishes

Michael

If this works, then I’d give

acpi_osi=linux

a chance. That would tell the system what to use, not what not (!) to use.

Great, that really helped. I also had to remove “acpi_backlight=vendor”, but now brightness controller are working. Backlight is still the same but now the /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness file is come again, and I can “echo 3” to that file to enable keyboard backlighting.

Now I need to fix backlighting controllers.

this didn’t work.
